Overlay Wins Ruckus on the Edge Theme Song Contest for 2010 JUNO Week!

The 2010 JUNO Awards Host Committee is pleased to announce rock band Overlay from St. John’s as the winner of the Ruckus on the Edge Theme Song Contest with their song “Ruckus on the Edge.”
Members of Overlay are Gene Browne, John Feltham, Andrew Strickland and Jason Miller.
“Congratulations to Overlay on winning the Ruckus on the Edge Theme Song Contest. Ruckus on the Edge is the perfect tune to set the tone for 2010 JUNO Week and an excellent example of the talent in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Ken Marshall, Chair, 2010 JUNO Awards Host Committee.
“It was an extremely tight race, demonstrating that all entries captured the imaginations of the Newfoundland and Labrador audiences. The incredible response we received shows that the whole province is ready to Ruckus.”
The 2010 JUNO Awards Host Committee would like to give an honourable mention to Kathy Hearn as her entry truly encompasses the spirit of Ruckus on the Edge. Rounding out the top five entries were Damian Follett of Paradise, Dave Bruce of Paradise, and Jenna Kelly of Spanish Room.
“We’re so excited about winning the Ruckus on the Edge Theme Song Contest,” said Gene Brown, of Overlay. “It’s great to be given an opportunity like this, especially in a young band’s career.”
Overlay will perform “Ruckus on the Edge” at the Juno Cup at the Jack Byrne Arena on Friday, April 16th and will receive a one (1) year membership in Music NL, two (2) four (4) hour recording sessions courtesy of Record Time Productions, and a mentoring session with Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea.
A total of 35 submissions were received for the song contest, launched on January 13, as part of the countdown to the biggest musical event of the year, Ruckus on the Edge-2010 JUNO Week.
All entries were judged based on song originality, musical expertise and synergy with the Ruckus on the Edge message.
